Australia to ban live sports betting ads

The Australian federal government could as early as next week ban sports betting advertising during live sports television broadcasts.

On Tuesday, The Australian Communications Minister Mitch Fifeld will put forward a proposal to the cabinet that will ban all betting advertisements from the first to the last whistle of a televised sports event.

The move has attracted great criticism from sporting bodies, which fear the ban could have a negative impact on funding for grassroots sports and initiatives.

So far, no Australian bookmaker has commented on the law proposal.
